There are two life expectancy tables below: a single life table and a two life joint and survivor table. Both life expectancy tables below are based on the 1983 Basic mortality table. The 1983 Basic mortality table is used to generate expected return multiples in gift annuity calculations.

Single life

The life expectancy at each age is show to its right. For example, the life expectancy of a person age 79 is 10.0 years. This means that there is a 50% chance that the person will live at least another 10.0 years.

Two lives: joint and survivor

To determine the joint and survivor life expectancy of two people, find one age on the horizontal axis and the other on the vertical axis, then read the number in the box where the column and row that you have picked intersect. For example, the joint and survivor life expectancy of a couple, ages 53 and 54 is 35.8 years. This means that there's a 50% chance that one or the other of them will live at least another 35.8 years.
